The Public, Project, and Infrastructure Finance group (PPIF) is looking for an analyst to join the Latin American team based in Mexico City.
Responsible for a portfolio of infrastructure companies, project finance transactions, as well as portfolio of regional and local governments rated by Moody’s in North Latin America. The role involves all aspects of the initial and ongoing credit analysis, including cash flow and debt-level financial modeling, supervising economic, fiscal, and political developments, and the formulation and substantiation of credit opinions. The individual hired will be encouraged to present recommendations to rating committees, communicate and defend their own analysis during internal meetings and write accurate and press release. The analyst in this position will also participate in new rating transactions and will have the opportunity to contribute to special in-depth research and outreach initiatives with other senior analysts of the team.
This role requires frequent interaction with market participants, including issuers, government officials, investors, and intermediaries. Therefore, an ability to own the assigned relationships and expertly interact with outside parties is a prerequisite.
Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative assessment of financial documents and economic/market data, as well as intensive analysis of bond indentures, liquidity agreements, official statements, and other legal documents.
  • Credit analysis on a dedicated portfolio of companies.
  • Actively supervise portfolio and make recommendations for rating transitions in a timely fashion.
  • Formulate a cogent rating rationale and present this rationale in a persuasive fashion at rating committee while leading the committee discussion.
  • Demonstrate rating judgment as evidenced by the ability to distinguish among entities at different ratings levels.
  • Produce timely and relevant research on specific issuers, general credit trends, or sector related issues that is in-depth, high quality, insightful and focused.
  • Build and maintain profile relationships with investors and issuers, interacting frequently based upon industry and topical research written.
  • Develop Moody's franchise through intermediary marketing and visibility initiatives (e.G., conference participation).
  • Lead issuer meetings, including communicating key rating factors effectively and asking probing questions that result in substantive dialog about key rating issues.
  • Interacting with senior company executives, investors, intermediaries, and press/media.
  • Present credits effectively and accurately in rating committees and other internal analytical meetings.
  • Mentor and develop junior analysts and support associates.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years credit/risk assessment experience gained from a financial institution, asset management, or audit firm.
  • Candidates should have strong academic background, with a minimum bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, International Relations, Public Administration or related field. CFA certification is a plus.
  • Other requirements include well-developed analytical skills, with strong attention to detail, strong written and verbal communication capabilities, manage multiple projects, and work closely with others as well as independently to produce accurate, detailed work in a multifaceted, fast-paced environment.
  • Bi-lingual in English and Spanish is crucial. Command of a third language – Portuguese– would be advantageous.
