Job Description:
Colgate-Palmolive is seeking an experienced Legal Director to provide robust legal guidance and support to our Mexican subsidiary. This role is pivotal in ensuring the legal integrity of our operations, safeguarding our reputation, and contributing to our overall success. As a Legal Director, you will work closely with the Legal Vice President, offering strategic legal advice, ensuring compliance with regulations, and leading our legal initiatives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Offer general legal advice and support to the subsidiary, reporting directly to the Legal Vice President.
  • Conduct proactive analysis and ensure the correct application of Mexican regulations, collaborating with Division and Corporate Legal specialist lawyers.
  • Actively participate in CBS, Demand, and Mission Hills Staff Meetings, providing direct legal oversight.
  • Develop and implement procedures for the correct application of the law, focusing on the impact on Colgate’s business.
  • Provide comprehensive legal services to various teams including Human Resources, Supply Chain, Regulatory, EOHS, Demand, and Procurement.
  • Support the Oral Care Marketing Teams in strategic projects and ongoing business needs, driving legal assessments in advertising challenges and defending Colgate’s claims.
  • Counsel business partners on a broad range of business law issues, offering pragmatic and business-minded advice.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, statutory regulations, and other formalities.
  • Lead contract negotiations, draft agreements, and ensure the company’s full legal rights are protected.
  • Identify and manage external counsel for litigation support.
  • Represent the company in industry committees and before self-regulatory bodies such as Conar, Amcham, and Canipec.
  • Oversee all labor-related legal matters and participate in the Company’s Brand Protection Unit initiatives and training.
  • Act as the company's representative before Public Entities, supporting business interactions with Government Agencies during audits and inspections.
  • Support CBS Legal needs and serve as the primary legal advisor to the CBS Leadership team.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree from a recognized institution.
  • Admission to practice law in Mexico.
  • At least 10 years of experience in a legal role with a strong background in corporate law.
  • Experience as corporate legal counsel providing services to commercial and marketing functions.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation and drafting.
  • Proven track record of managing legal matters related to Human Resources, Supply Chain, Regulatory, EOHS, Demand, and Procurement.
  • Fluent in Spanish and English, both written and spoken.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in the consumer goods industry.
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex legal issues in a clear and concise manner.
