ERM is seeking a motivated and well-rounded Social Impact and Human-Labor Rights Managing Consultant to join our team in Mexico City.

The daily responsibilities will include project management (including the managing of budgets and project personnel), undertaking social impact assessments on behalf of clients, serving as the independent social consultant for projects financed by multilaterals or Equator Principle banks, and developing and implementation social management plans, including forced labor rights, forced labor and modern slavery. The roll requires individuals work in both English and Spanish;
candidates should be fluent in both language and have excellent written and verbal skills. The roll also includes supporting ERM’s business development activities such as working on bids and establishing relationships with our key clients. As such, the role offers a unique opportunity to be involved in innovative and exciting projects that ERM is currently working on while also working to expand our reach. Access to ERM's international consulting experts will provide the right candidate with an opportunity to learn about best practices across the different sectors and regions.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support in the development of ERM’s social impact services across a range of sectors (i.E. oil and gas, power and infrastructure, among others) and clients in Mexico working closely with ERM’s other technical community leaders.

  • Support in the management of team members and development of their technical skills.
  • The right candidate will be responsible for the management of individual projects including liaising with clients, managing the budget and organizing the teams, juggling numerous projects and priorities at once.
  • Work with ERM’s business development teams and leaders across Latin America to maintain existing client relationships as well as grow new client portfolios in Mexico and more broadly resulting in the growth of ERM’s opportunity pipeline. This will require an individual with good communication skills, client/market understanding and proposal development skills.
  • Provide guidance in mentoring and expansion of the social performance team within the Mexican Business Unit.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Undergraduate degree in Social Sciences, Communications, Anthropology or related. Preference will be given to candidates with a graduate degree.
  • At least 8 years of progressive experience in issues of social performance such as Social Impact Assessment, Social Performance and Labor human rights.
  • Strong understanding of national regulations and laws related to stakeholder consultation, land acquisition and Corporate Social Responsibility;
  • Experience developing and implementing Social Impact Assessments;
    Stakeholder Engagement Plans;
    and Resettlement and Land Acquisition Plans for a variety of sectors. Preference will be given to candidates with experience developing and implementing these plans in the oil and gas or power sector.
  • Good working knowledge of international standards such as the IFC’s Performance Standards on Sustainable Development or the Equator Principles;
  • Experience monitoring and evaluating their project compliance with the Applicable Standards.
  • Experience in designing and implementing grievance mechanisms.
  • Excellent Project Management and communication skills.
  • Flexibility to handle multiple assignments while meeting strict deadlines.
  • A willingness to travel within Mexico is essential. Applicant should expect to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and fluency in Spanish and English is mandatory.
